Editorial standards & disclosure

Tribal lending is a "your money or your life" topic where bad information does real harm. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.

Independence & no pay-for-placement

Our lender scores and rankings are set solely by our published methodology. No lender can pay to raise its score, change its review, or be featured. We are not owned by any tribal lender, lead generator or debt-relief company.

How we make money — and how we disclose it

An independent site still has to be funded. Where we earn money, we tell you on the page:

  • Advertiser links. Some outbound links may be paid affiliate links. Any paid link is marked "Advertiser link" at the point of the link, and carries a rel="sponsored" tag. Links without that label are plain, unpaid links to a lender's own site.
  • Alternatives & debt-relief. On our alternatives and distress pages we may be paid when a reader chooses a cheaper product or a debt-relief service — never for sending someone toward a more expensive loan.

Being paid never changes a score. A lender we rank poorly is ranked poorly whether or not its link is monetized.

Sourcing & accuracy

Every figure — APR, loan amount, complaint count, settlement sum, case number — is verified against a primary source (the lender's disclosures, court dockets, regulator records, BBB/CFPB data). When we cannot confirm something, we label it "unknown" instead of guessing. Each review lists its sources.

Not legal or financial advice

We publish general information to help you make your own decision. Whether a specific loan is legal, void or collectable depends on your state and your exact agreement. For advice about your situation, contact your state attorney general, the CFPB, or a consumer-protection attorney.

Corrections

Lender terms, availability and legal status change constantly, and we update pages as they do. If you find something out of date or wrong — especially a rate, a settlement detail or a lender's status — tell us and we will verify and fix it. We date every page so you know how current it is.
