How we calculate it
APR is the rate that makes the present value of all your payments equal the amount you actually received. We solve for it numerically (a bisection search on the periodic rate, annualized by your payment frequency) — the same method a Truth-in-Lending disclosure uses. If your agreement front-loads interest or adds origination and NSF fees, your effective cost is even higher than the figure shown.
