Online tribal loans: what actually happens when you apply

Almost every tribal loan is an online loan — there are virtually no storefronts. So "online tribal loans" does not describe a separate product with different terms; it describes the only way these loans are sold. The rates, the risks and the state-by-state enforceability questions are exactly the same as anywhere else on this site.

What is worth understanding is the application itself, because that is where the real decisions get made. In five minutes you typically hand over your Social Security number, your bank login or routing and account numbers, your employer and pay dates — and you sign an ACH authorisation letting the lender pull payments directly from your account. The lenders below are the direct online tribal lenders we have documented.

The application form is the product

Many of the highest-ranking sites for "online tribal loans" are not lenders at all — they are lead generators that collect exactly the data above and sell it. One application can become dozens of calls, texts and emails from lenders you never contacted, and the data is sold whether or not you are approved. A real lender names the single tribe that owns it and links to that tribe's lending code. If a site will not name one tribe, assume your application is the thing being sold.

Online tribal loans, ranked 15 lenders scored on cost, terms, funding, complaints and legal standing

  1. 1 Spotloan stronger than most on terms & flexibility

    ≈490%
    $300–$800
    6.0/10
    Active

Spotloan is one of the cheapest tribal lenders — but 'cheapest' still means up to 490% APR, and it uses simple daily interest, which rewards paying off early more than almost any competitor.

    Strongest point
Simple daily interest — pay early and interest stops accruing that day.
    Biggest catch
First loans run up to 490% APR; a $500 loan to term costs roughly $2,089.
  2. 2 Uprova stronger than most on funding speed

    35.9–725%
    $300–$5,000
    8.0/10
    Active

Uprova advertises a 34.5–35.99% APR on its homepage, then discloses rates of 300–700%+ in the actual loan agreement. That gap is the whole story.

    Strongest point
Funds land within about 30 minutes of approval, 24/7.
    Biggest catch
The 35.99% APR on the homepage is not the rate most borrowers get — agreements show 300–700%+.
  3. 3 Big Picture Loans

    350–699%
    $200–$5,000
    Active

Big Picture Loans is the rare tribal lender that actually won sovereign immunity in a federal appeals court — which is exactly why its up-to-699% loans are so hard to challenge.

    Strongest point
Larger loans than most tribal lenders — up to $5,000 for returning borrowers.
    Biggest catch
New-borrower APRs run 250–699%; payments reportedly do not reduce principal.
  4. 4 Mobiloans stronger than most on terms & flexibility

    260–785%
    $200–$2,500
    4.5/10
    Active

Mobiloans is a line of credit, not an installment loan — its two-part fee structure hides an effective APR up to 405%, and whether its arbitration clause binds you now depends on which federal circuit you're in.

    Strongest point
Revolving line of credit — draw only what you need, up to $3,000.
    Biggest catch
Effective APR up to 405%; the two-part fee structure is hard to compare.
  5. 5 Plain Green

    210–682%
    $500–$5,000
    Active

Plain Green is one of the oldest and most-litigated tribal lenders — its Think Finance ties produced about $1 billion in relief, and loans made before June 2016 were cancelled outright.

    Strongest point
A post-2016 restructure ("Plain Green 2.0") lowered some rates — unusual in this space.
    Biggest catch
APRs still run roughly 199–699%; a $700 loan can project to $3,686 repaid.
  6. 6 American Web Loan

    600–780%
    $300–$2,500
    Active

American Web Loan already paid one of the largest tribal-lending settlements ever — $141 million in 2021 — yet it is still lending. If you borrowed between 2010 and 2020, part of your debt may already be gone.

    Strongest point
One of the longest-running tribal lenders (since 2010), lends in ~45 states.
    Biggest catch
APRs run roughly 200–780%; rates are not disclosed upfront.
  7. 7 WithU Loans stronger than most on funding speed

    500–700%
    $200–$2,500
    7.0/10
    Active

A federal appeals court threw out WithU Loans' arbitration clause in 2026 because it pointed to tribal law that did not yet exist — and the company claimed the right to invent it. That tells you how the structure works.

    Strongest point
Same-day funding if you clear the wire/direct-deposit cutoffs.
    Biggest catch
Effective APRs of roughly 476–597% documented in court filings.
  8. 8 MaxLend stronger than most on funding speed

    471–841%
    $100–$3,750
    7.0/10
    Active

MaxLend gamifies its pricing — a 'Preferred Rewards' loyalty ladder is the only way down from 700%+ APR — and it excludes its own home state of North Dakota.

    Strongest point
    A published same-day funding cutoff (11:45 a.m. ET) — rare specificity.
    Biggest catch
    APRs of 471–841%; a documented 419% loan on $2,700 repaid about $9,000.
  9. 9 Lendumo stronger than most on funding speed

    400–800%
    $100–$2,500
    7.0/10
    Active

Court filings allege the Lac du Flambeau tribe keeps only 1–3% of Lendumo's lending revenue while a non-tribal company runs the operation. Lendumo is also the rebranded Amplify Funding.

    Strongest point
Fast funding — next business day, or same-day real-time funding for later approvals.
    Biggest catch
Effective APRs of roughly 400–795%+; rate not disclosed until after you apply.
  10. 10 Bright Lending stronger than most on terms & flexibility

    400–800%
    $300–$2,000
    4.0/10
    Active

Bright Lending won't lend in its own home state of Montana — or any of the states that enforce rate caps hardest. It exports up-to-725% loans everywhere else.

    Strongest point
Autopay and loyalty tiers cut the APR sharply — VIP Platinum can reach ~325%.
    Biggest catch
    First-time manual-pay borrowers face up to 725% APR — a $500 loan repays $2,944.
  11. 11 Ascend Loans stronger than most on funding speed

    525–699%
    $300–$2,000
    6.5/10
    Active

Ascend Loans is serviced from an office park in Overland Park, Kansas — not from tribal land — which is the whole argument in the class action against it. It is Uprova's smaller sister brand.

    Strongest point
Small starter loans ($300–$2,000) with an "Emerald Rewards" tier for repeat borrowers.
    Biggest catch
APRs of roughly 525–725%; manual-pay borrowers are charged more than autopay users.
  12. 12 Little Lake Lending stronger than most on funding speed

    400–795%
    $200–$2,500
    6.5/10
    Active

Little Lake Lending is the target of a Kelly Guzzo rent-a-tribe class action alleging rates as high as 795% — and it runs 'mirror' sites advertising a misleading 5.99% APR that has nothing to do with the real product.

    Strongest point
Penalty-free early payoff — pay only accrued interest to the payoff date.
    Biggest catch
Effective APRs commonly 400–500%, with class-action allegations up to 795%.
  13. 13 Crane Finance stronger than most on funding speed

    400–780%
    $100–$1,500
    6.5/10
    Active

Crane Finance charges a $5 fee just to fund your loan the same day, advertises up to $15,000 for repeat borrowers, and is defending two separate federal RICO suits.

    Strongest point
Unusually large loans for repeat borrowers — advertised up to $15,000.
    Biggest catch
APRs around 700%+; cost disclosed only after approval.
  14. 14 CreditCube stronger than most on terms & flexibility

    260–780%
    $200–$5,000
    4.0/10
    Active

CreditCube starts first-time borrowers at a flat 779.97% APR and only lets the rate down — to a still-brutal 260% — if you keep borrowing. It is one of three lending brands the Big Valley Band runs.

    Strongest point
Publishes its exact APR floor (259.94%) and ceiling (779.97%) — rare transparency.
    Biggest catch
First-time borrowers pay the maximum 779.97% APR.
  15. 15 eLoanWarehouse stronger than most on terms & flexibility

    400–700%
    $300–$3,000
    4.0/10
    Active

eLoanWarehouse is the 2022 rebrand of Blue Trust Loans — same tribe, same operation, new name. Its BBB 'A+' measures how fast it answers complaints, not the up-to-700% loans behind them.

    Strongest point
Larger loans than many tribal peers — up to $3,000.
    Biggest catch
APRs run ~400–700% (its Blue Trust predecessor reached 841%).

What these loans actually cost

APR is an abstraction until you put a number on it. Across the 15 lenders on this page with a published rate, the median APR ceiling is 780%. On $1,000 borrowed over 12 months that works out to roughly $652/month$7,819 repaid in total, of which $6,819 is interest.

How this site works

We are an independent registry — not a lender, not a broker and not a lead generator. No brand on this page paid to be here, and no ranking position is for sale. We take no money from any lender and sell no applications.

Entries are built from the lender's own published disclosures, tribal corporate and lending-authority records, federal and state court filings, and CFPB, FTC and state regulator actions. Of the 143 brands in the full list of tribal lenders, 41 are confirmed lending, 74 sit on a watchlist pending verification, and 28 have shut down. Where a figure cannot be sourced we leave it blank rather than estimate it — which is why some entries are deliberately incomplete.

How we picked this list

Direct online tribal lenders we have verified, ranked by our score, then by demand. Data is verified against each lender's own disclosures, regulator alerts and court records — see our methodology and editorial standards. Rates change constantly; confirm the figure in your own loan agreement before you borrow.

Frequently asked questions

Are online tribal loans different from regular tribal loans?

No. Nearly all tribal lending is online — there are almost no physical locations. The APRs, the sovereign-immunity argument and the state-by-state enforceability questions are identical. "Online" describes the channel, not a different product.

How fast is funding on an online tribal loan?

Approval is often minutes because the underwriting is automated, but the money moves on banking rails. A standard ACH deposit lands the next business day at the earliest, and weekend applications generally fund on the next business day. Same-day funding usually means a paid instant-transfer option, not a faster loan.

Is it safe to give a tribal lender my bank login?

Many applications ask you to connect your bank through a third-party service so they can read your transaction history. That is genuinely how the underwriting works, but it means a lender you may not be able to sue in your own state now has a detailed view of your finances. If you are not certain the site is a real direct lender, do not connect anything.

What am I agreeing to with the ACH authorisation?

You are authorising the lender to withdraw scheduled payments directly from your bank account. It is separate from the loan agreement itself and you can revoke it — you have the right to stop payment with your bank even if you still owe the debt. Revoking the ACH does not cancel the loan, but it does stop the automatic withdrawals.

Can I get an online tribal loan with guaranteed approval?

No lender guarantees approval, online or otherwise. Sites promising it are either advertising loosely or are lead generators harvesting applications. Tribal lenders do approve a very high share of applicants, but they still verify income and an active bank account, and they still decline people.
