CashCity Watchlist
Lac du Flambeau Band (Mitig LLC)
A federal court opinion in Fitzgerald v. Wildcat (W.D. Va. 3:20-cv-00044, Doc. 170 at 3 n.4) lists the Lac du Flambeau lending entities and their trading names, and records that Mitig, LLC traded as both MitigCapital and CashCity. Loans taken between 24 July 2016 and 1 October 2023 were cancelled automatically under that settlement — part of roughly $1.4 billion wiped. A loan after 1 October 2023 was NOT cancelled. Its rates and loan amounts were never published anywhere we could verify.

Skip CashCity if…
- You need a lender we can confirm is still making loans — its status is unconfirmed.
- You want to know the price before you apply — we found no rate it has ever published.
Because CashCity never published one that we could verify, and we do not print figures we cannot source. Comparison sites quote APRs for brands like this routinely; we went looking for where those numbers come from and could not find an origin for them.
What we can show you is the record: who the courts and regulators say is behind the brand, and whether any of it cancels your balance. If you hold an agreement from this lender, the TILA box inside it is the only rate that means anything — and it is worth keeping.
Court record and your CashCity loan
- Fitzgerald v. Wildcat covers CashCity loans made July 24, 2016 through October 1, 2023. By the same dates, a loan made on or after October 2, 2023 is outside it, and so is one made before July 24, 2016.
CashCity has no start date on record. The date that counts is the origination date printed on your loan agreement — not when you last paid.
- Fitzgerald v. WildcatW.D. Va. — final approval Dec 2024 · 2024 — ~$1.4B in loans cancelled + $37.35M fund

Frequently asked questions
Is CashCity a tribal loan?
Yes. CashCity is a tribal lending brand owned by the Lac du Flambeau Band in WI. That means it lends under tribal law and claims sovereign immunity from your state's interest-rate cap, rather than holding a state lending license. It has never published an APR we could source, which is itself a warning sign. Whether the loan is enforceable where you live depends on your state.
Is a CashCity loan legal in my state?
It depends entirely on your state. High-cost tribal loans are effectively banned in nine states, where a loan above the rate cap can be void and not legally collectible, and restricted in many more. CashCity claims tribal sovereign immunity from those caps — an argument courts have accepted in some cases and rejected in others. Check your state before you borrow, and especially before you pay a collector.
